The Vocations Crucifix Program at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish is a way of developing prayer and devotion among our parish families. The Vocations Crucifix reminds each host family or household that they share in the responsibility to pray for and promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We all must encourage and support men and women to these vocations.

The Vocations Crucifix travels weekly from one home to another. A family or household receives the crucifix at one of the weekend Masses and takes it home for one week, praying for an increase in vocations. The crucifix is a daily reminder in your home to talk about religious vocations and the importance of these vocations to serve the Lord and others.

How do I sign up?

How do I receive the Vocations Crucifix?
At the end of a weekend Mass, the presider will call your name to come forward to the front, so please sit close to the front near the altar. At that time, he will give you a blessing and present you with the Vocations Crucifix Box.

How do I pray over the Vocations Crucifix?
There will be special prayers and instructions in the box but essentially praying a vocations prayer and the rosary.

Where do I place the Vocations Crucifix once I receive it?
Dedicate a special place at home in a common area drawing attention to the crucifix.  Place it on a cloth along with a Bible and candle, if you have.

Where do I return it?
Return it to the priest at the conclusion of the Mass you typically attend.

How long do I keep the Vocations Crucifix?
One week.

Why do I have to receive the Vocations Crucifix at Mass? Can't I pick it up at the office?
The Vocations Crucifix is presented at Mass, as praying for vocations is kept before all parishioners.  This brings to light the importance of this prayer ministry and to inspire others to pray for the young men and women who are discerning.

I'm out of town and can't return the Vocations Crucifix.  What do I do?
Please email Mary Lou Savage at [email protected].  She'll have to notify the next family about the situation and make a schedule adjustment.

Can I pray with others over the Vocations Crucifix?
Yes! You can create a prayer group or even invite friends and family over Zoom to cast a wide network of others willing to partake in this prayer ministry.
