The Human Concerns Committee responds to Jesus' command to love neighbor and self by working for the common good of all. The committee works to inspire the parish community to discern and act in ways that make the works of peace, justice, and mercy integral to their daily lives. To become salt of the earth and light of the world, we work to alleviate the distresses of hunger, homelessness, disease, lack of housing and health care, and other human needs.
Typical on-going activities of the Human Concerns Committee:
Coordinating meal preparation for women's shelter
CROP Hunger Walk
Death penalty education
Thanksgiving Food Drive (for SVdP)
Christmas Giving Tree and gift distribution (for SVdP)
Have a Heart Sunday (aka Undie Sunday) (clothing drive for the Opportunity Center)
Shoe collection for Soles4Souls
Eyeglass collection for the Lions Club International Foundation
Collecting sleeping bags, warm coats and blankets for several local area centers serving the poor including LifeMoves/Opportunity Center, the Catholic Worker House, Ecumenical Hunger Program and St Francis of Assisi Church in East Palo Alto.
